The article by Charles Shahar on Canadian Jewish Population, 2019 includes: (a) a summary of data on Jewish persons from the 2011 National Household Survey, (b) a review of the controversy surrounding the 2016 mid-decade Canadian census, where the classifications used for identifying "ethnic categories" resulted in a sharp decline in the reported Jewish population of Canada, and (c) the implications of the definitional issue for the 2021 data collection process by Statistics Canada.

The 2011 National Household Survey (NHS 2011) data on Jewish Canadians noted that the Jewish population of Canada was 391,655, an increase of 4.7% from the 2001 estimate of 374,060.  The NHS 2011 reports on Canada's Jewish population are available at the DataBank, divided into National Reports and Local Community-City Reports.

In this 2019 American Jewish Year Book (AJYB) article, Shahar summarizes data on Canadian Jews based on the 2011 NHS survey, focusing on Basic Demographics (including a map of Jewish Canada and an historical summary in Table 1), Provincial and Metropolitan Population Distributions, and a special focus on Sephardim in Canada and the Winnipeg Jewish Community.

The 2018 survey of Jews in Canada summarized survey data on Jewish behaviors and attitudes from 2,235 Jewish Canadian respondents living in 4 major Canadian Jewish communities: Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver (these communities account for over 80% of all Canadian Jews based on the 2011 national data).

The "Executive Summary" from the 2018 Survey of Jews in Canada was revised for inclusion in the 2019 American Jewish Year Book as chapter 7, directly following the Shahar article.
